SEVEN MONITORS and one central processing unit (CPU) went missing the morning of September 19 after a break-in at one of the rooms of the Mathematics Department. Several drawers, which contained mostly personal items of the instructors, were also left open.

According to some faculty members, the unidentified robbers broke the doors to get in. “They did something to the door. Then they took a bag from one of the professors’ table and threw the contents on the floor,” one source, who refused to be named, said.

He added that the people in the department believe the robbers used the emptied bag to take along the LCD monitors on their way out. He also said that the stolen CPU did not contain any important documents pertaining to academic grades or examinations.

Threat to security

The department’s faculty and staff currently have no idea as to a possible motive, but rule out a conspiracy. “An inside job? Probably not,” said one source.

He is, however, hoping that Megaforce Integrated Security Agency (MISA), the school’s current security provider, improves. “They better shape up, I guess. This poses a challenge to them,” he said in a mix of English and Filipino. “They just started, right? Then an incident like this happens. They should perform better.”

MISA Commander and Area Supervisor Jun Deiparine refused to give an official statement. “I can’t talk now. Investigations are still ongoing. The Quezon City Police Department advised us not to discuss preliminary reports until final investigation results are released,” he said in Filipino.

The Office of Administrative Services and the Facility Management Office have yet to release official statements.
